| Description | The novel Anne of Green Gables by the Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery was published in 1908, but Czech and Slovak readers didn’t get to know it sooner than after World War II. It was translated into Slovak in 1959 (Mladé letá publishing house, Bratislava) and the first Czech version was published in 1982 (Albatros publishing house, Prague). The author focuses especially on translations that date from the second half of the 20th century, also devotes attention to more recent translations and their role in shaping the Czech and Slovak reception of the novel. |
