Description Introduction The use of repellents is of fundamental importance for protecting humans from ticks and the pathogens that ticks are vectors of. Repellents reduce the likelihood of ticks attaching to the human body and the associated risks, but part of the public rejects repellents in the form of synthetic substances for various reasons (concerns about toxicity, higher price, etc.). Therefore, attention should also be focused on natural substances that may be better accepted by consumers. Objective The main objective was to conduct a field study of the repellent efficacy of preparations containing essential oils obtained from the long turmeric plant (Curcuma longa). The study focused on the effects against the common tick (Ixodes ricinus) and also brought interesting findings on the repellent effect of other natural substances.
