Description We diagnose diaphragmatic ruptures in the context of associated with trauma. The most common causes are car accidents and falls from a height, where the abdomen is compressed. Injuries are usually so called closed, without penetration into the abdominal cavity. A rare cause of diaphragmatic rupture is extreme pressure on the diaphragm caused by other etiologies, such as coughing.
