Description | The Red List of Fungi (Macromycetes) of the Czech Republic assesses the degree of threat for 1762 species of fungi naturally occurring in the territory of the Czech Republic. The introductory chapters briefly summarise the biology and ecology of macromycetes, the main causes of their endangerment and the history of macromycete protection since the publication of the previous Red list. The assessment was carried out by an expert team of twenty field mycologists according to the IUCN Red List guidelines applied to fungi as recommended by Dahlberg and Mueller. The resulting Red list contains 1676 species in the following categories: Extinct in the Czech Republic (RE) – 32, Critically Endangered (CR) – 190, Endangered (EN) – 330, Vulnerable (VU) – 325, Near Threatened (NT) – 238, and Data Deficient (DD) – 561. For each species, the relative importance of eleven categories of causes of endangerment was expertly assessed. Rarity per se was found to be the most common factor (70%), followed by intensification of forest management (44.2%), eutrophication (28.5%), climate change (24.8%), and successional processes (20.5%). The remaining 86 species from the previous Red list were included in the Least Concern (LC) category and are listed in a separate table. |
