Description The article summarizes the contemporary state of Czech research about the Czechoslovak Legion in context of Russia and its cultural and historical space. Furthermore, it suggests possible ways to further the research. Three specific ways have been elaborated upon in the article. Firstly, a further research is suggested of the economic, political and public administration carried out by the Czechoslovak Legion on the territories it controlled during its activities in the Russian Far East and Siberia. Next, the article presents the perception of non-Russian ethnicities encountered by the members of the Legion and their mutual relationship and cooperation during the Russian Civil War and the possibilities of further exploration of the topic. Finally, the question of uncovering the fates of members of the Legion that stayed, temporarily or permanently, in Russia is laid out. The article characterizes the state of knowledge in each of these topical fields and presents possible sources and methodological approaches to further research and development of said fields. In the final part, the text elaborates on the possible alternative sources and research methods in the current political situation, with the original sources in Russia being unaccessible at this point, as well as, most probably, in the years to come. For one, it points at the possible use of archive sources of Russian provenience currently located outside Russia, namely in Ukraine. Furthermore, it presents archives in the United States and the United Kingdom and the materials they can potentially contain. Finally, it suggest the use of published editions of diaries and memoires of the members of the Czechoslovak Legion as a source of a deeper insight into the mentality and thought frames of the individual soldiers.
