Description | In 2023, researchers K. Hladíková and L. Bělka, in cooperation with colleagues from the Military Historical Institute, discovered a world unique - the Chinese version of the film The Road Leads to Tibet, which is largely different from the Czechoslovak one. The length of the film is almost the same, but the content differs. And the film also has a slightly different title: The Happy Journey to Lhasa. The question of why this was so, why our version was unacceptable to the Chinese filmmakers, can be answered by studying several surviving versions of the film's script, and especially in the unpublished travel diaries of our two travellers. These reveal the real background to the making of the film, and show how our and the Chinese approaches to documentary filmmaking about Tibet differed. |
