Description | The chapter is dealing with selected collections of relief-decorated stove tiles, which were used to build stoves in economically stronger burgher households of Renaissance Brno. The influence of the Reformation is reflected in a series of fictional portraits of twelve biblical heroes, as well as in a wide variety of vegetal and geometric wallpaper patterns. The origin of tile decoration with mythical sea creatures resembling dolphins can be found in the Mediterranean. At the end of the Renaissance, allegorical representations of some of the seven virtues also appeared in Brno. |
