Description Erysipelas is most commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. In addition to the usual pathogens, diverse bacterial mixtures and multidrug-resistant bacteria associated with the risk of multiple hospitalisations, can complicate the situation. The lecture will discuss some important types of bacterial resistance and current trends in antibiotic therapy for selected skin infections (with a focus on erysipelas) from the microbiologist's perspective.
