Description | This article examines changes in musical preferences in the first half of the 19th century. The social changes caused by the French Revolution undermined the influence of the aristocracy on cultural life and gave rise to national identities, which led to a growing interest in local and foreign cultures. The new fascination with Alpine folk culture and its melodies also had an impact on the religious sphere, as illustrated by examples from the music collection of the Premonstratensian monastery in Nová Říše in Moravia. Detailed analyses of specific songs such as the “Gebirg-Jodler aus Admont”, “Schnaderhüpfel”, “Der Schnee”, “Der Frohsinn auf den Alpen” and “Die Schwagrinn auf der Alm” reveal characteristic melodic structures and connections to broader cultural contexts. |
