| Description | End-stage chronic kidney disease (ESRD) represents a global health problem, associated with high mortality and morbidity, a number of devastating comorbidities, and a huge economic burden on national budgets. According to current estimates, ESRD could become the leading cause of death in the next two decades. ESRD results from irreversible damage to the renal parenchyma. Very frequently, the kidney failure is the consequence of chronic pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, autoimmune diseases and a number of congenital abnormalities. |
