Description | The presented publication is the first Czech monograph focused on invasive parasites in wild ruminant hosts. These parasites can play a significant role in game populations. However, to assess the real impact of invasive parasitic infections it is necessary to evaluate these diseases in a broader context and from a long-term perspective. As a result of globally significant events such as globalization and climate change, the importance of invasive parasites will probably increase in the future. It is advisable to be prepared for this challenge. This publication should help in this regard. The book deals with two important parasitic helminths of wild ruminants – the abomasal nematode Ashworthius sidemi and the giant liver fluke Fascioloides magna. In addition to knowledge about the distribution and biology of these parasites, epidemiology and pathology of parasitic infections, the book also provides a number of practical recommendations for assessing the health status of animals, diagnosing invasive parasites and implementing control measures to prevent and further spread of invasive parasites. The book summarizes published information from authors over the world as well as the results of the authors’ own research and their practical knowledge based on many years of experience in the field. The authors believe that in addition to the gamekeepers, zoo keepers, or wildlife rescue stations, the publication will also interest veterinarians and other professionals dealing with ruminant health issues and will serve as an informative source for university students and teachers. |
