| Description | The authors investigated the physical fitness and cardiopulmonary function in a group of 15 children (age 13.2 +- 3.6 years) treated on account of a malignant tumour by comprehensive antitumourous treatment incl. antracycline antibiotics (255 +- 94.1 mg.sg.m -2) with cardioprotection by Cardioxane. Their results on bicykle spiroergometry (VO2max 37.0 +- 7.3 ml.min-1.kg-1) and echocardiography did not differ significantly from children treated in a similar way but without cadioprotection (n=22). The dosage of antracyclines in the group without cardioprotection was however not high. As the affection may develop also several years after terminated treatment, it will be necessary to follow up the patients. It was revealed that the patients tolerate a higher physical load than permitted hitherto. |
