Description | The induction of gametic recessive embryonic lethal mutations in genes involved in embryo development in Arabidopsis as a part of somaclonal variation was studied. The progeny of in vitro regenerants and of the control plants were analysed regarding the frequency of defective embryos, the frequency of true embryonic lethal mutations and other characteristics. While the frequency of defective embryos significantly increased, the frequency of embryonic lethal mutations did not. The appparent paradox of this finding is clarified. |
