Description Methods of molecular biology, above all the PCR, are now routinely used for the specific detection of bacteria and viruses and they excellently supplement the clasical diagnostic methods. The specific approach is the detection of the universal bacterial or mycotic sequence by means of the "broad-spectrum PCR" method which is of use mainly for the primary detection of microorganisms in normally sterile clinical samples.
