Description | This communication deals with the development of life expectancy both of males and females at birth in the Czech Republic since beginning of the century up to 1997 and with the evaluation of difernces' development between both sexes. The years after the World War I. (1920-1923) and the World War II. (1947-1956) are two of the most favourable sequences in the life expectancy development fot both the sexes. The life expectancy stagnated as concerned males and even females during 1924-1929, in case of males still in 1957-1968. The difference in prolongation of life expectancy of males and females was significant in a statistical way in the period of 1957-1968, as to females there was apparent a light slight growht, as to males rather stagnation and so in 1990-1997, when, on the contrary, the life expectancy of males has prolongated more quickly compared to females. The course of sex differences of life expectancy is a truthful indicator of excess mortality of males in the 20th century. These differences decline during the years of favourable development of males' life expectancy and enlarge, on the contrary, during stagnation. |
