Description | Prediction system PERLA is a newly developed tool for ecological quality evaluation of rivers based on benthic macroinvertebrates in the Czech Republic. The idea and statistic apparatus is based on the British RIVPAC system principles and corresponds with the approach included into the "Council Directive establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy". It means a comparison of the actual macroinvertebrate community at particular place with a respective target community. Target community is derived from the database of the reference sites with minimal human-mediated environmental stress. Database comprises data from nearly 350 sites. The most important tool of the system software HOBENT allows the prediction of the target community for any site based on the several environmental, which characterise the site. Then, the predicted community can be compared with the fauna observed at the same site. The comparison enables evaluation of the extent of disturbance. |
