Description Cps mutants of Schizosaccharomyces pombe reveal different morphological aberrations. The aim of this work was to examine the organization of wall and septum at the ultrastructural level and reinvestigate the cytoskeleton in relation to the phenotype of the mutant. At restrictive temperature mutants formed the thick septa and terminated the growth. At semirestrictive temperature wall and septum were thicker, less compact and more fibrillar.Actin and microtubular cytoskeleton were rich. Mutation of the gene cps6 may interfere with the physiological termination of the wall synthesis in G2 phase of the cell cycle and septum after mitosis. Rad25+, coding one of 14-3-3 protein homologs that complements mutation in cps6 may function in the pathway of wall integrity and proliferation. Morphological manifestation of mutation may be the consequence of the absent physiological block of transition between G2 and the next cell cycle.
