| Description | Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses of prokaryotic organisms which intervene in the natural populations of their host organisms. Several thousand phage strains have hitherto been described. Phages are of great importance in biotechnology, in therapy of bacterial infectious diseases and theš serve as a model for the study of molecular biology, virology and genetics. |
