Description | Ergosterol is a fungal steroid elicitor of the plant defence reaction in tobacco and spruce cells. This interaction is accompanied by the synthesis of active oxygen species and changes of membrane permeability to H+ during 10 min. The effect of calcium channel inhibitors and the distribution of Ca by confocal microscopy were studied. These results suggest that the binding of ergosterol to an unknown receptor results in a mobilization of internal calcium stores (probably IP3 dependent) rather than in the effect on the plasma membrane channels |
