| Description | The paper provides description of main fields in research and practice of Digital Libraries from the computer science perspective - general architecture, global information identifier schemas, metadata, interoperability, and distributed information discovery. Overviews of general approaches in each of the fields are complemented with examples of practical solutions representing building blocks of current DL infrastructure. Short excursion into DL history, description of main programmes supporting development in the field of digital libraries as well as the extensive bibliography for further study are also included. |
