| Description | Abstract: The article contributes to the discussion about xenophobia in European countries. In its first part, the article deals with xenophobia concept, its general features, dynamics and offers possible explanations of its causes. The second part of the article brings the result of the European Values Study 1999 data analysis. The author, using the figures of 23 countries, focuses his interest on the extend of xenophobia, perceptions of different groups of "strangers", similarities and dissimilarities among the countries and also on the xenophobia correlates. |
