Description | Three Schoenoplectus species have been collected in the Czech Republic: S. lacustris, S. tabernaemontani, S. supinus. This last is extinct. The other three species S. triqueter, S. pungens and S. mucronatus are documented only by literary data or by dubious herbarium specimens which may be not from the Czech Republic. The occurence of S. supinus in the Czech Republic was restricted to the Labe Basin (Veltruby near Kolín and Úžice near Kralupy nad Vltavou). Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani is limited by soil condition. This taxon usually occurs in saline habitats in the warmer continental parts of the Czech Republic - e.g. in Southern Moravia; further localities are situated in the Labe Basin and Dolní Poohří. The distribution of Schoenoplectus lacustris covers the whole area of the Czech Republic with the exception of the mountains. Its occurence was probably restricted to the lower parts of big rivers (e.g. Labe or Morava) before colonisation. The determination key is based on the following characters: culm glaucescence, culm cross section, number of stigmas, length and width of achene, shape and sculpture of achene, occurence of papils on glume surface or on glume midrib. Presented maps of distribution of S. lacustris and S. tabernaemontani are based on herbarium revision of the 20 largest Czech herbaria. |
