Description BM2 is a line of v-myb-transformed chicken monoblasts. It was prepared by infection of immature myeloid cells with avian myeloblastosis virus. The genome of the AMV contains v-myb oncogene, that is efficiently expressed in BM2 cells. Terminal differentiation of BM2 cells does not occur spontaneously but it can be induced by various differentiation promoting agents, such as phorbol ester TPA, LPS, vitamin D3, ligand-activbated nuclear receptors RAR and RXR. The type of differentiation agent determines the type of BM2 differentiation pathway to the terminal stage of mononuclear macrophages, macrophage polykaryons or osteoclasts. The type of BM2 differentiation could result from the existence of at least two cellular signalling pathways that are targeted by v-Myb.
