Description | This review of the Central European species of Muscidae summarizes basic information on the adult morphology, development, biology and classification. Identification keys are given for the subfamilies, tribes, genera and species recorded from Central Europe, which is here defined to cover Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland. Special attention is paid to the male terminalia as a source of important species-specific criteria. The specific characteristics, including essential diagnostic characters, are given for all 396 species dealt with, and biological notes are given so far as information is available. Taxonomic papers published in the last four decades have been taken into account, and nomenclatural changes suggested over the same period have been accepted. |
