Description Josef Zeman s monograph The Natural Carbonate Systems is divided into four basic sections. The introductory section is devoted to the outer (external, extrinsic) interactions of the carbonate system and its location in the context of the processes passing on the surface of the Earth. In the second section the basic relations for equilibrium, equilib-rium constants and distribution coefficients can be found. A relatively great attention - both in range and in details of elaboration - is paid to the calculations and the modelling of the carbonate system in the third section. With re-gard to the fact that the solution of carbonate equilibrium leads to the higher order equations and to the necesssity to solve the systems of non-linear equations the book is completed by a large chapter dealing with the principles of the application of numerical methods of the solving and the modelling of natural systems (Newton and Newton-Raphson method). The final part of the book is represented by the index and the list of the literature recommended for further study.
