Description | This article deals with immigration policy of relevant Czech political parties: the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), the Christian and Democratic Union - Czechoslovak People Party (KDU-ČSL), the Freedom Union - Democratic Union (US-DEU), the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and the Communist Party Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM). As the sources of policy analysis were used party programmes and publicly presented opinions of party leaders. The main element of immigration policy of the left-wing ČSSD is an active recruitment of qualified foreign employees. The party has a very pragmatic approach to legal migration, which is from their point of view very important instrument for the solution of demographic crisis in the Czech Republic. Contrary to that, the right-wing ODS is characterised by restrictive immigration policy and expresses worries about problems which are connected with immigration (increasing of xenophobia, racism etc.). Centre KDU-ČSL is divided. The conservative party wing is orientated very restrictively to immigration. Opposite to them, modernistic party wing have a positive approach to immigration. Social liberal US-DEU is going through a big internal crisis for a several years and their immigration policy is unclear. Although orthodox communist KSČM declares internationalist and 'friendly' approach to immigrants, it is possible to identify very strong nationalistic elements in the party presentation. It is generally true that for the Czech relevant parties the immigration policy is growing of importance for the last years. However, the immigration policy stays out of priorities in case of all relevant parties for the present. |
