Description From the beginning of the 20th Century, in standard Russian, some specific processes can be observed which began in the 19th Century. In recent decades we can find some shifts in the way the verbs function: we observe a tendency to eliminate the stem of the morpheme of some nonproductive verbs, the competitive aspect forms of verbs with suffixes -a- and -iva-, double aspect forms are reduced to single aspect forms by means of prefixes and suffixes, and different forms of aspect refer to different stylistic qualities.
