| Description | The existence of partial and complete genomic maps of several organisms, including a draft sequence of the human genome, has created the need for tools capable of both detecting and quantifying expression of tens of thousands genes (expression profiling) or identifying changes in the genetic code (resequencing) in a very short period of time. These needs are fulfilled by DNA chips, or microarrays. These arrays are currently among the fastest growing technologies in biomedical research and development, and they will be utilized in clinical applications in the near future. The aim of this review article is to introduce fundamental information about microarray technology. |
