Description | The article deals with the determinants of the falling marriage rate during the nineties. In the first part grouped data from the whole Czech Republic in 1991 and in 2001 is presented. In the second part binary logit models are generated as analytical tools for the five-fold contingency table. The dependent variable is marital status; the independent variables are year, gender, age and education. The results show that the effect on the decision to marry between 1991 and 2001 is weaker for women, young people, and highly educated people. These population segments remained single in Czech Republic in the nineties. The hypothesis about the second demographic transition, which characterised demographic changes in the Czech Republic in the nineties, has not been rejected. |
