Description | Flight activity of bats in the region of the hill Třesín. The aim of this study was to record the foraging activity of bats in different habitats of the hill Třesín (in the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape area - central Moravia) by means of detecting their ultrasound cries. In studies of chiropteran faunistics, the combination of bat detectors with other field methods is desirable. Therefore we also recorded the presence of bats at both entrances to the cave Podkova by means of mist netting. Eleven bat species or species pairs were recorded, most of them by sound detecting; Myotis emarginatus and Plecotus auritus were only netted. The highest foraging activity (seven species) was found at a field-forest ecotone with a stream. In contrast, the lowest activity was recorded in certain quarries and within the coniferous forest. However, Myotis myotis displayed relatively high gleaning activity in forest habitats and over forest paths. We also visited several high buildings in the vicinity of the hill Třesín to complete the information on summer shelters of bats; thus, summer nursing colonies of M.myotis and P.austriacus were recorded and a temporary shelter of Rhinolophus hipposideros was found. |
