Description | Under special conditions dielectric-barrier discharges (DBDs) can be operated in a diffuse mode, also known as homogeneous mode or atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD). This contribution reports on experimental studies of diffuse DBDs in mixtures of nitrogen with noble gases argon, helium and neon. The discharge voltage and current are measured. Spatio-temporally resolved optical emission spectroscopy is performed. The aim of this work is the investigation of the transition between the Townsend- and the glow-like mode of diffuse DBDs. The discharge remains in the diffuse mode until a relative high admixture of noble gases. |
