Description | We have designed an optimized procedure for the paleopathological diagnosis and final interpretation of traumasgs. For the study we used our experience gained in the examination of over 1550 skeletons or their parts from six locations in Moravia that date from the 5th to the 18th centuries. The diagnosis of traumatic changes on skeletal remains is based on detailed macroscopic and classical radiologic examinations. After arriving at an initial working diagnosis, a decision is then taken on an individual basis regarding the use of financially and technologically more demanding methods. In trauma assessments, we found it useful to apply the following modified traditional classification into: bone fractures, dislocations and luxations of joints, injuries caused by weapons or sharp objects, intentional deformations of the skull or other mutilations, trepanations, scalpings, cauterizations, amputation of limbs and fatal injuries in the course of enforcement of law. |
