Description | A collection of new studies on modality in Slavonic languages aims at concentrating contemporary knowledge from the fields of general linguistics and Slavonic studies. Modality includes expressing possibility, necessity and volition and with regard to its position on the border of semantics, logic, syntax and pragmatics adopts a central position in many fields of linguistic research. Twenty-four chapters document the scope and diversity of contemporary research in the fields of general linguistics and Slavonic studies; the book is divided into sections dealing with semantic, diachronic, areal pragmatic and also cultural aspects of modality in Slavonic and other languages. |
