| Description | The generation of Czech writers of the second half of the 19th century, where Julius Zeyer counted among, sought for new ways of creative expression. According to F. X. Šalda, Zeyer was the most modern author of this generation, although he was nspired by the oldest heroic poems. He is modern due to his poetic visions, his fantasy, his refined methods that give freshness, attraction and extraordinary appeal to his "images renewed". J. Zeyer, who was brought up by his mother (from a Prague Jewish German family) to Czech consciousness, subordinates to this consciousness not only his life also his work. He feels oppression of Czech people and Czech life, he tries to provide it with self-esteem by his epic poems, where medieval heroes fight for the highest ideals. The most considerable metaphor of this fights is Zeyer s The Novel About Four Ajmon s Sons. |
