Description Drying up of streams is not a common phenomenon in natural conditions in Central Europe; however the Gránický brook is an example of this phenomenon. The research was carried out at the Gránický brook in the south of Moravia, Czech Republic (the Danube catchment). Its catchment area has a specific character with periodical summer droughts in particular stretches. The impact of unstable hydrological regime on macroinvertebrate assemblages was investigated in two different climatic and hydrological seasons. Ten series of macroinvertebrate samples were taken from two sampling sites between April 2002 and October 2003. The utilisation of total abundances, taxa richness, higher taxa levels, life strategies and ecological status were assessed to describe the state and the changes in the macroinvertebrate assemblage
