Description | Thirteen newly detected accessions of wild barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum) resistant to powdery mildew caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei were studied with the aim of finding the number of genes conferring the resistance to powdery mildew and locating individual genes on barley genetic map. The genetic as well as the molecular analyses were performed in the segregating F2 population of the cross between the winter barley cultivar Tiffany and the resistant accessions. In five accessions the resistance was found to be conferred by one gene, in seven accessions by two independent genes and in one accession by three independent genes. The mode of inheritance of most analysed genes was found to be dominant or semi-dominant, only two were recessive. Now we have knowledge about the gene identification in four accessions. Six resistance genes were located at the Mla locus on chromosome 1H, two genes on chromosome 2H and one gene on chromosome 7H. The prospects of our work are the identification of further more tightly linked DNA markers and fine mapping of resistance genes. |
