Description | In the reconstruction of the facial skeleton diverse kinds of bone grafts are used. The grafts are most frequently harvested from the region of ilium, costa and calvaria. Calvarial bone grafts are applied if thin but mechanically firm material at the time is needed. If comparing, they are preferential to bone grafts from other regions because of the lesser resorption of them. External corticalis in the parietal region is harvested most frequently. The harvest is performed by means of reciprocal saw, Gigli saw or osteotome. The technique for bone harvesting is described in this paper. The authors present some examples of calvarial bone grafts used for reconstruction of bony part of the nose, orbital floor and alveolar process of the mandible. |
