Description | Parasitological studies of L. gibbosus from this region come mostly from sixties and seventies of 20th century. In the present study, we focused on monogenean parasites of this introduced species, especially parasite species composition and distribution on the gill apparatus. A sample of 15 specimens was collected from backwaters of the Danube River in April 2004. Fins and gills of each fish were examined for monogenean parasites. A total of 889 individuals of 4 species were found on gills: Urocleidus similis, U. dispar, Actinocleidus recurvatus (Dactylogyridae) and Gyrodactylus sp. (Gyrodactylidae). No monogeneans occurred on fins. A. recurvatus represents a new parasite species in Slovak Republic. |
