| Description | In this study, we used molecular diagnostics of the spirochete Treponema pallidum in biological materials. The tested samples were collected from patients with suspect syphilis, and patients diagnosed with primary, secondary, early or late latent stages of syphilis. Samples of one patient with congenital syphilis were also analyzed. Seven swabs samples were PCR positive (from 4 patients with primary or secondary syphilis) and all samples from the patient with congenital syphilis. For strain identifications, the TP0548, TP0136, and TP0319 genes were amplified and obtained PCR products were sequenced. In two cases, sequences identical to the strain SS14 and in another two cases, unique sequences in locuses TP0548 and TP0136 were found. |
