Keywords Soil erosion estimation – GIS – remote sensing – digital landscape model
Description RS represents a basic data source about soil erosion. GIS technology supplied with suitable geodata supports RS in location and classification of erosion damages. Both these technologies were applied in the area of Central Moravian Carpathians. Digital landscape model represented an integrated database (slope, aspect, geology, soils, humidity, land use). Areas with maximum erosion threat were identified using geodata. Landsat TM data analysis based on NDVI calculation provided areas with lowest biomass content. After masking these preliminary results with information layers about other vegetation free areas, water bodies and potential soil deposits accumulation, the data set with vegetation free soils was achieved. This one has been subdued to humus content classification by RS Erdas technology and three classes of „naked“ soils were identified in any class of natural environment. This way, the classification error level was reduced, otherwise the same optical demonstration of different damages under different natural conditions disturb the classification results.
