Description During 2002-2005, metazoan parasites of N. kessleri were observed in five localities of the River Danube and its tributaries in Slovakia. Fish were infected with 33 parasite species, acanthocephalan Pomphorhynchus laevis and glochidia od Andodonta anatina were the dominant parasites. In most species, low host specificity was found. N. kessleri served mainly as a paratenic or intermediate host, the only adult endoparasite was a trematode Nicolla skrjabini. N. kessleri seems to be a fish with high susceptibility to different parasite species mainly in their larval stage.
