Description | Cartography and geoinformatics is basic subject of Courses on The Department of Geography, Masaryk University in Brno. Passing this subject successfully is necessary for the next study. Fundamentals of Cartography or GIS (geographic information systems) can be found in many others courses at the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Informatics. Most existing cartographic textbooks were published in early 80 s. These books are usually unavailable for all students. Except them there are some GIS textbooks published at different universities, but they are very different grade and they content variable information quantity. That is the reason why the project of multimedia textbook was proposed because it can provide very valuable and complex material for study. The multimedia textbook is created by modern web technologies, such as hypertext, flash animation, javascript, html, CSS, SVG, PHP, MySQL etc. There is interactive interface with possibility of testing basic cartographic knowledge and simply map output. Themes are linked by hypertext links to show their relations. Main source of information is Czech and foreign literature (printed and electronics). The list of literature is important part of the textbook. Existing textbooks, www-pages, professional journals, theories, software, map servers, institutions providing map sources, universities, etc. are in the list. There will be also possibility to print and download parts of this textbook to desktop PC. Periodical updating will be done according to the development of geoinformation technologies. |
