Description | This research has been part of the international ELSPAC project (The European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood). Methods: 1) WISC-III, 2) The Questionnaire for the mother and The questionnaire for the father. Conclusions: 1. Gender does not have any substantial influence on the level of intellectual abilities; it is only expressed on the level of subtests. 2. Also, the age of the parents has no substantial influence on the level of intellectual abilities of their children; we have only found a sub-effect of the father’s age on verbal intelligence of children in the age of eight. 3. The mother’s education does have substantial influence on the level of intellectual abilities of her child – this influence is stronger in verbal component of intelligence than in the performance one. 4. The sibling constellations as well as the number of brothers/sisters in the family have influence on the verbal component of intelligence; however, these variables may be in interaction with other influences. |
