Description | This chapter deals with the question what is population climate among young Czech population (aged 18-40). It is based on a representative survey carried out in 2001. My analyses show that young people do not refuse to get married, and that contracting marriage is an important factor in their life plans. However, before they get married they want to live in a trial marriage (i.e. in unmarried cohabitation) first. Analyses of their fertility intentions indicate that in near future (during next 15-20 years) Czech level of fertility will be below reproduction. Constructed indicators of hypothetical completed fertility show that fertility of this age group will still be among the lowest in Europe, howevever it will approach current European average: 1.7 -1,8 children per woman. |
