Description This study was aimed at detection of chromosomal changes in tumor tissue of medulloblastoma using CGH method and assessment of the correlation of these changes with histological subtype of the tumor; I-FISH method was used for the MYCC and MYCN copy number detection. A total number of changes detected by CGH were higher in tumors with middle or severe anaplasia; however, this trend was not significant. A significant difference in number of chromosomal changes was proven in different tumor subtypes, i.e. in classic vs. desmoplastic medulloblastomas (median 3 vs. 10). On the other hand, no difference was observed in patients with localized vs. metastatic disease. ESF analysis confirmed a more aggressive clinical outcome in patients with gains of MYCC and MYCN genes. Detection of described cytogenetic markers with prognostic significance thus represents an important part of the medulloblastoma diagnosis and may help to the better stratification of the patients.
