Description | This report deals with a preparation of an optimum procedure in diagnostics, classification, and interpretation of tumoral diseases at skeletal remains. More than 2700 skeletons from 8 Moravian sites (from the 5th to the 18th centuries) were assessed. Macroscopic, roentgenologic and histologic examinations were used. It was necessary to use a modified classification of tumours for the interpretation of results with respect to the character of skeletal remains. Analysing iconographic and literary sources has brought information on living conditions that influence the occurrence of tumours to a certain extent. Benign tumours mainly have been found in the sets. Traces of soft tissue tumour metastases have been found in 5 cases, 1 case of osteosarcoma and 1 case of myeloma. The investigation of tumours of skeletal remains may contribute to a better understanding of relations during the development of this disease type and to explaining the growth of occurrence of malignant tumours. |
