Description | The work aims at the theoretical and experimental research of mutual relations between cognitive and learning styles. The author comes out with the assertion that learning styles should include a personality element which reflects and can determine this. Implementing three main research methods: Witkins GEFT, Rotters LOC, and Schmeck et al.s ILP the author surveyed in 2004 a file of 195 respondents - secondary and university students, both male and female ones. Particularly, it turned out that the cognitive style, which is characterized by the field dependence/independence, is convenient for various learning style factors, especially in its polarity of independence, when people are able to work in a creative and initiative way, with personal commitment and sensible keenness. It a fact that a good learning style can be successfully implemented even by field-dependent persons whose approach to the fulfilment of their study assignments is submissive, passive and/or mechanical. A certain role in the findings may play the fact that the respondents were the students whose learning styles have been connected with the field-dependence. However, their learning styles were successful. Another feature of the cognitive style was represented by externality/internality of the person. Generally, it turned out, that internality is related positively both with the field dependence and learning style factors. However, there are other variables taking part in this relation to have been examined, but not researched in this project |
