Description | The paper deals with the age identity of the so-called transition generation, that is the subjective age of people aged 55 to 65. In the Czech context, which our research is based on, a very important group of respondents is involved, including baby boom cohorts which are bearers of a range of social changes in the ageing Czech population. The text introduces the initial findings of an empirical representative survey of this specific population (Transition 2006) and addresses the question whether and how members of this group define their subjective age. In the introduction we briefly review foreign studies on the topic and then we use our data to test whether subjective age is conditioned by significant socio-demographic characteristics and whether and how it influences softer measures such as subjective health, quality of life and happiness. |
