Description | Potential of visual daily weather records for climate reconstruction is evaluated. Methodological problems related to this type of data are discussed (e.g. terminology, quantification). Overview of the known visual daily weather observations for the Czech Lands is given up to 18th century when they overlap with the first instrumental measurements. This can be used for cross-checking as well as for calibration of qualitative visual observations. An example of monthly temperature reconstruction based on the method of indices and linear regression model is presented for the 1780s as well as spatial presentation of historical weather records within GIS. |
