| Description | The book deals with the fortune of Czech philosophy during the Protectorate, in the extreme situation of a nation whose existence was threatened; when the influence of philosophy was radically changed and limited. The book aims to prove that philosophers, as well as researchers in other fields, did not resign; they tried to use the opportunity to remind in their publications of the existence of philosophy and its mission. The attempts are demonstrated not only by articles in philosophical and cultural revues but also by the books on philosophy published between 1939 and 1945. Many Czech philosophers paid for their philosophical opinions and following life attitudes with suffering in Nazi prisons and concentration camps, or with their own lives. |
